How Welana came to Charoen Krung
Charoen Krung Road has carried traders, craftspeople, and workshop owners through more than a century of Bangkok's history. Welana arrived on this same street with a straightforward intention: to offer careful, honest watch servicing in a city full of options that are neither careful nor honest.
The workshop focuses on three areas where the work is clear and the result is measurable — mechanical movement servicing, quartz and battery renewal, and crystal and case restoration. No broad promises about what we can fix; instead, a precise scope agreed with the owner before any tool touches the piece.
Every client who walks in gets the same treatment: a proper look at what they've brought, an honest description of what's needed, and a written note that travels home with the watch. The approach hasn't changed because the work it produces hasn't needed changing.

How the Work is Done
Correct Lubricants
Each calibre receives lubricants appropriate to its movement type, age, and intended use — not a single-grade oil applied to everything.
Ultrasonic Cleaning
Movement parts are cleaned in an ultrasonic bath before lubrication, removing old grease and debris from tolerances that can't be reached by hand.
Calibrated Timing
Mechanical movements are measured on a timing machine after regulation, and the result is recorded in the condition note sent home with the watch.
Water Resistance Check
Where a watch has a rated water resistance, gaskets are inspected as part of the service and replaced if degraded — preventing moisture damage after collection.
Scope Agreement First
Nothing beyond the stated service price is carried out without the client's explicit agreement — any findings that require additional work are communicated before proceeding.

Watch servicing in Bangkok covers a wide range — from tourist-shop battery swaps to genuine horological workshop care. Welana sits firmly in the latter category. The distinction matters because the difference between a rushed battery change and a proper quartz service (fresh gasket, movement inspection, torque-correct case assembly) determines whether a watch stays water-resistant and keeps reliable time over the following years.
For mechanical pieces, the consequences of inadequate servicing compound over time. Old lubricants turn to varnish, friction increases, and components that could have been cleaned begin to wear. A full calibre service — disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning, fresh lubricants, regulation — stops this cycle and restores the movement to something close to its designed performance. Welana has handled calibres from pocket-watch era hand-wound movements to modern automatic movements from European and Japanese manufacturers.
Crystal and case work follows a similar philosophy. The aim is not to make a watch look new — it's to make it look well-maintained. Appropriate refinishing softens scratches without removing the natural wear pattern that gives a well-used watch its character. Crystal replacements are matched to the original specification wherever documentation or reference material allows.
Located on Thanon Charoen Krung in Bang Rak — one of Bangkok's oldest commercial districts — Welana serves clients from across the city as well as visitors passing through. The workshop is open Monday through Saturday, and enquiries are welcome by phone or email before a visit.
